This is one of the most amazing restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of eating from. I used to work at the more poplar WAG next door and I always was interested in this little hidden tucked away place sharing out building. Working in the kitchen above
Sidharth, sometimes the smell of freshly prepared curries would waft up and tempt me and finally I gave the place a shot. The chef and his wife are really nice people and really care that you have a good dining experience. It's funny how busy and popular the kitchen I worked at next door was and how poor the quality of the food was yet people came in and spend hundreds of dollars just to dine in a place they can be seen and party. I am a lover of food and I don't care what the ambiance is like or where the cool people go or where the best parties are or the best place to get drunk. Quality food and a passion for serving the best meals surpasses any of that superfluous garbage.
We ordered basically almost one of everything. The dishes were all amazing. Everything tastes freshly prepared and super fresh. Truly. Both of the owners are very pleasant people and they deserve all the great praise they get. Do yourself a favour if you're in the area. Hell, make the trip from
Vancouver. It's so worth it. The white rock strip is full of the typical tourist style food attractions, places more focussed on ambiance and style than food. Sidarth is the exact opposite. The vegetable dishes are absolutely divine, but you just have to go here and order everything.
I come from an Indian family and have eaten this food my entire life and the restaurant versions of real Indian food are often bland representations of a food culture known for its exotic spices and freshness of ingredients.
Just go eat here. It's un-assuming. It's not fancy. The kitchen is small, the dining room is comfy and cozy and it's right on the ocean. How this place isn't super popular is a testament to our frankly, disgusting fast food and franchise culture that values flash and flair over true substance. God, I'm honestly having the thought of driving 3.5hrs just to eat here again. I imagine the only other place serving food like this is some kitchen somewhere in India. If you love food, and if you love Indian food in particular and can appreciate the kind of passionate skill and knowledge it takes to cook like this, just go here. Make the trip from Vancouver one night, you'll thank me. And when you leave and see the crowds full and drunk and bursting out of the place next door and all the other places on the White Rock strip
truly know these people have no idea what they are missing out on.
When those stupid food network shows "you gotta eat here" praise all of the mundane and plain not so good restaraunts and leave places like Sidsarth out, it just proves that the general populace doesn't know or care about the truly special establishments. This place is one of the two gems of white rock, in fact, of the entire lower mainland. Both this place and the sushi place on five corners are amazing not just for the area but for the entire Lower mainland and province. I moved away but I can't wait to go back and eat here again. I am not exaggerating when I say you can probably get the best Indian food in Canada and possibly North America here.
New favorite. Best Indian I've had in a long time. Hd pakora, samosas, curry and saag paneer. Naan bread is excellent as well. I've had curry in Edinburgh and London as well as all over BC. This is as good as you can get anywhere. It's a little mom and pop type place with enjoyable service. Highly recommended checking out this hidden gem.
Best Indian Anywhere!. Mom and Pop operation...pop's the chef, mom does the rest....pop's sauces are the best you will ever taste...believe me, i have had a lot of Indian food....Vancouver, Toronto, London, Bombay (Mumbai), Delhi...and I can equivocally say that this is the best food I have ever eaten....don't expect the fancy decor here, if you want that go to MyShanti nearby (VJ's) ...but if you want real Indian cuisine, without the fancy stuff, and a thousand different curry flavors exploding your taste buds , go to Sidarth!.
